AN ACT to provide for the appointment of additional judges of elections in Coles and other counties.

Comm’rs of Coles, McDono’, & Vermilion to appoint new judges of elections.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners’ court of Coles, McDonough, and Vermilion counties, shall have the right to appoint another set of judges of elections for the precinct in which the county seat is situated.
Sec. 2. Said judges, so appointed, shall in all respects be governed, and their proceedings regulated, by the law regulating elections.

Sec. 3. That all that tract of country lying withing the following limits, to wit: Commencing at the southwest corner of Coles county, running east, twelve miles, to the line of the land district; thence, north, ten miles; thence, west, to the line of said county; thence, south, to the place of beginning, shall hereafter constitute an election precinct, and be placed upon the same footing as other election precincts; and elections shall be holden at the town of Woodbury, in said precinct.2

1Byrd Monroe introduced SB 98 to the Senate on January 18, 1839. The Senate passed the bill on January 21. The House of Representatives referred the bill to a select committee on January 29. The committee reported back on February 2 and recommended amendments, to which the House concurred. On February 9, the House passed the bill. The Senate passed the amended bill on February 9 and added the final clause to the title. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 15 and the act became law.
