AN ACT declaring the road from Jacksonville to Springfield a State road.

Road changed.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the road leading from Jacksonville to Sprngfield, as now used and traveled, is hereby declared a State road, but shall be changed, in the county of Morgan, between Reeves’ blacksmith shop and where the present road passes through the first point of timber east of said shop, and from thence to pass, on the present traveled road, to the bridge across the north branch of the Mauvaise-terre creek; and from thence, on the nearest and best ground, to Trenton; and from thence to where the present road crosses the county line between Morgan and Sangamon counties.

Sec. 2. James Henderson, Robert Cassell, and James Todd, are hereby appointed commissioners to locate the changes hereby required, in said road. They shall meet at Reeve’s shop, on some day before the first day of July next, and, upon being duly sworn to discharge the duties required of them, shall proceed to discharge the duties required of them; and, upon surveying and locating said road, shall make report thereof to the county commissioners’ court of Morgan county; and in said report they shall note the courses and distances from point to point, with such other remarks as they may deem necessary; which report shall be entered on record; and the route located shall thereafter be the State road.

1On February 1, 1839, Senator William O’ Rear introduced SB 170 in the Senate. On February 5, 1839, the Senate passed the bill. On February 14, the House of Representatives passed the bill. On February 19, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
