Sec[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly That Albert Frazer and William Womack of the County of Shelby be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners to review and relocate the road running from Shelbyville in Shelby County to Palestine in Crawford County so as to vacate so much of said road as runs parallel with the road that runs from Shelbyville to Terrehaute, so as to let the Palestine road be, and compose a part of the Terrehaute road thirteen miles East of Shelbyville and from thence on the most direct route, to intersect the present Shelbyville and Palestine road where it crosses the line dividing the Counties of Coles and Shelby.
Sec 2. Said Commissioners Shall meet at Poes Post Office in Shelby County on or before the first Monday of September next and after being duly sworn before some Justice of the Peace, faithfully to perform the duties required of them by this act, shall proceed to review and relocate and mark said road so as to do as little damage as practicable to farms and small tracts of land through which the same may pass.
Sec 3. Said Commissioners shall report their proceedings to the Clerk of the County Commissioners, Court of Shelby County who shall file the sameAnd the road thus relocated, shall be deemed a State road and repaired as suchThe County Court of Shelby county shall allow said Commissioners a reasonable compensation for their services

1On February 13, 1839, Peter Warren in the Senate presented the petition of citizens of Shelby County, requesting the relocation of a state road between Shelbyville and Palestine. The Senate referred the bill to a select committee. In response to this petition, Warren of the aforesaid select committee introduced SB 223 in the Senate on February 14. The Senate passed the bill on February 19. On February 27, the House of Representatives tabled the bill.
