AN ACT to change to name of the town of Charleston, in the county of Kane, to that of St. Charles.

Name of town of Charleston changed.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the name of the town of Charleston, in the county of Kane, and State of Illinois, be, and the same is hereby, changed to that of St. Charles; and by that name it shall hereafter be known and distinguished in law.
Act not to affect estate in town.
Sec. 2. This act shall in nowise affect the title to the real estate lying and being within the plat of said town; or prejudice, impair, or affect, the rights, privileges, and immunities, of said town. This act to take effect from and after its passage.

1Joseph W. Churchill presented the petition of the citizens of Charleston to the House of Representatives on January 7, 1839, requesting to change the town’s name to St. Charles. Churchill introduced HB 113 on January 9. The House passed the bill on January 18. The Senate passed the bill on February 4. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 9 and the act became law.
