AN ACT to change the name of the town of Columbus, in the county of Randolph.
1Name of Columbus changed to Sparta.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the name of Columbus, in Randolph county, be, and the same is hereby changed to that of Sparta.

1On December 11, 1839, Senator Richard B. Servant presented a petition, and the Senate referred the petition to a select committee. On December 18, Servant, a member of
the select committee, introduced SB 9 in the Senate. On December 23, the Senate passed the bill. On January 2, 1840, the
House of Representatives passed the bill. On January 8, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
