Duty of auditor
Members of Gen. Assembly, $100, Speakers, Sec.[Secretary] of Senate, Cl’k[Clerk] of H.R., Assistants, Enr.[Enrolling] and Eng. Cl’ks[Engrossing Clerks] Door-keepers, and Assistants, $100
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Auditor of Public Account be, and he is hereby required to draw warrants on the treasury for the sum of one hundred dollars to each member of the General Assembly, and a like warrant to the Speaker of each House, the Secretary of the Senate, and the Clerk of the House of Representatives, and Assistants of each House, to each of the Enrolling and Engrossing Clerks, and door-keepers, and each Assistant door-keeper, of both Houses.

1On December 21, 1839, Senator William H. Davidson introduced SB 28 in the Senate, and the Senate passed the bill. On December 23, the House of Representatives voted against a motion for the indefinite postponement of the bill by a vote of 24 yeas to 57 nays, with Abraham Lincoln voting nay. The House then passed the bill by a vote of 59 yeas to 23 nays, with Lincoln voting yea. On January 8, 1840, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
