In force, Feb.[February] 1st, 1840.
AN ACT fixing the time of holding the Summer term of the Supreme Court.
1
Summer term of supreme court
Laws repealed
Sec[Section]. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That hereafter the summer term of the Supreme Court shall commence on the first Monday in June, in each year, and all parts of laws inconsistent with this act are hereby repealed.23
Approved, February 1st, 1840.
1John Dawson introduced HB 65 to the House of Representatives as “An act to restore the charter of the State Bank of Illinois” on December 28, 1839, and the House referred it to the Committee on Finance, of which Abraham Lincoln was a member. The committee reported back on January 27, 1840, and recommended an amendment, to which the House concurred. The House passed the bill on January 30 and changed the name of the bill to “An Act fixing the time of holding the Summer term of the Supreme Court.” The Senate passed the bill the next day. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 1 and the act became law.

2An 1835 bill sets the same start date for the summer session as this bill, but that is apparently due to a printing error. An amendment to that bill actually set the start date on the third Monday in June.
3The House of Representatives passed an amendment on January 27, 1840, replacing all of the text in this bill after the enacting clause.
