Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, Represented in the General Assembly, That the Commissioners appointed under the act to which this is an amendment be required to render an account to the County Commissioners Court of said County at the next regular term of said Court, and at each regular term thereafter, showing satisfactorily the amount of money paid out by them as commissioners aforesaid, on what portions of the roads in their Respective districts the same has been applied, shewing the names of persons to whom contracts have been let; also an account for their services as Commissioners of said road districts, and also shewing in what cases, (if any) and to whom extra allowances have been made to persons receiveing contracts. And the said County Commissioners are hereby required to remove any Commissioner of said road districts who fails or refuses to render satisfactory accounts agreeably to the provisions of this act and appoint others in their place.

1James McWilliams introduced HB 8 in the House of Representatives on December 12, 1839. The House passed the bill on December 17. On December 24, the Senate tabled the bill. On January 29, 1840, the Senate took up the bill, amending it by adding an additional section. The Senate passed the bill as amended. The Senate informed the House of the bill’s passage and amendment, but the House took no action on the Senate amendments.
