Your favour of 8th June 46. came to hand a few days since and was most heartily [pleased?] at the news you forwarde me from the mail contract office. by this it seems I may some day or other expect
a [Draft?] on some post office for what little mail carrying I have done. I am truly greatful to you for the liberal pains you have taken in assiting me in obtaining this revenue.
I have spoken to col consol about the Service which I performed during the balance of the year which will be
sent to you shortly.
I have no Important news to Inform you from alton. Only the military disease which is madneing all our Citizens we now have about a 1000 Soldiers in town, [pervading?] streets under drill on from morning until night. makingquit a business like stir among—merchant to provide for needfull thing for the army, W Libby has Recd
[appointions?] of [Subtler?] I [made?] an asstnt
Comisary. Provisions are in general demand in consequence of the aditional large [?]
[advance?] to our town. They now Barrack in vacant Houses stores & Park Houses some are encamped
in middle town. no deaths of any Importance had taken place health in geneal very good in town, but bad in the country.
