Your communication of he 18th Inst. relative to the extra pay to be allowed on your routes between Raleigh and Columbia, in case the new service should be discontinued before the expiration of the contracts: has been considered by the Postmaster General and he has ordered, that, in consequence of the peculiar nature of the service and the large outlay and expense to be incurred to stock the routes, the allowance to be entered into contracs to be made in case the service is discontinued before the time specified, shall be two months extra pay.
