To the HonThe Senate and House of Representatives in Congress assembled.
We the undersigned Petitioners, being residents of the country upon the East bank of Fox River, in La Salle County, would respectfully represent, that the country upon the East bank of Fox River between Ottawa at the junction of said river with the Illinois, and Oswego the county site of Kendall County is as densely populated as any other section in this part of the state. that Post office privileges are highly appreciated by your petitioners: and that without such privileges their homes are rendered nearly valueless. that during the 28th Congress a Bill was past establishing a Post route from Ottawa in La Salle Co to Napierville in Dupage Co. via Norway Newark. Oswego. &c. that the said route was defeated by the Post Master Gen. in not accepting of any bid made. that the Post Office at Newark has been supplied mostly by a cross mail from Bristol. being a cross Fox River. that crossing said river is often difficult and often hazardous. that in general Letters and papers from Chicago are one week on the route before received at Newark. That all the principal roads are market roads. leading directly to chicago on the east. or to Ottawa on the west. that one of the principal market roads from Ottawa to chicago is upon the east bank of Fox via Newark. Oswego. Napierville &c. and your Petitioners would humbly request your Hon Body to revive said act. or to create a new act as to you may seem proper establishing said route
