To the HonorableThe Senate and House of Representativesin Congress assembled
January AD 1848
We the undersigned petitioners being residents at Long Grove (which is on the route
now petitioned for) and its vicinity would respectfully represent that the Country
on, and adjacent to the east bank of Fox River between the Town of Ottawa in Lasalle
County, and Oswego in Kendal Co is very poorly supplied with post office privileges
That said Country upon east bank of Fox River is quite densely populated and far advanced
in improvements, containing as many elements of civilization as many of the older
settlements, that said settlements upon the east bank of Fox River being confined
to the timber and groves on the east bank of the river, form one extended settlement
and can not be supplied profitably by any cross mail, That the only mail route which
can supply the imperious wants of said Community with post office privileges is a route is a route from Ottawa. Via Norway. Newark ^Cambridge^ Oswego to Naperville in Dupage County, that said route is upon on one of the principal,
Market roads ^(& from Norway to Naperville on the state road)^ leading from Ottawa to the City of Chicago via Napierville, and your petitioners
would most humbly solicit your Honorable Body to pass an act to establish the said
post route as above described
