Feb 26th 1848Sir
Your letter s Your letter stating the reasons why “the mail Route from Paulding to Mobile [direct?] did not go into opperation,” has been receved[;?] [I offer?] the citizens of East mississippi through me to call your attention to the Routs in
opperation between these two points and see if they will answer the object in view
Rout No ^57, 65^ Jackson C H to Paulding Rout [No?] 5762 Paulding to Union Rout No 5702 Union to Jackson Miss Making 14 days from Mobile
Ala to Jackson Miss & 10 days from Mobile to Paulding a distance of 12o Miles
The citizens have partitioned the Legislature of this state [...?] two years ago & they sent resolutions to Congress to establish the same rout
Nearly all the Business of the Eastern portion of Mississippi is transacted in Mobile
and ten days is as quick as a letter can go by regular mail
I would suggest that Hon A G Brown be consulted & if necessary a petition of one thousand
names of the business & [...?] Interested Men in this immedate section & could be immedatly sent you if that would be of any avail. The Establishment of the Mail Rout from Paulding
to Mobile direct via Leaksvill will be of considerable profit to the department for
now all the
