The Petition of the undersigned Citizens of the township of Athens in the County of
Calhoun and State of Michigan Respectfully Showeth that the Public welfare requires
a Mail-route from Battle creek in the Said ^co^ to Schoolcraft in the county of Kalamazoo running from Battle creek to Le Roy center
thence by the most direct route ^to the^ center of Section 8 in the township of Athens thence west through near the center
of Wakeshma and Brady to Schoolcraft
We therefore Pray you to establish the above route and an office in this town on Sec 8 by the name of Pine-Creek and that you appoint over said office Philander Knappen
whose location and business habits renders him well Qualified his to discharge the duties pertaining to said office
