To the Honorable, the Congress of the United States.
We the undersigned citizens of Pike and Scioto Counties Ohio, respectfully petition
your Honorable Body, to establish a New Mail Rout between Piketon and Ruckman, and
Galford settlement, on Little scioto Creek, in Union township, Pike County Ohio, and
on which to locate a Post-office, at, or near Abishai Ruckman’s in said Township,
to be known by the name of Gibson Post-Office.
This is a point, near which a large number of citizens in Pike and scioto counties
live, who are almost entirely without mail mail privileges or conveniences; being
situated, 10 miles from Piketon P. O., and 8 miles from Beaver P. O. in Pike Co.,
and 8 miles from scioto P. O. and 8 miles from Lucasville P. O. in scioto Co.
It is proposed to have a weekly mail from the above named place, to Piketon, to start
from the new Post-Office on saturdays, and reach Piketon at 12 o’clock, M. and to
return the same day.
