Permit me to call your attention to the reduced pay of Post Masters under the late Post Office Laws and respectfully Solicit you to bring the subject
before Congress at the approaching Session
The Postages received at this Office from

By comparison of the above it will be found that in the Quarter ending 30th June 1847 the Postages received exceeded those of the corresponding quarter of 1846
the sum of $15934 while the compensation of the Post

Master was less by $175.97 and by comparing the return for the Quarter ending Sept
30. 1847 that the Postages received exceeded those of the Corresponding Quarter of
1846 the sum of $244 08. while the compensation of the Post Master was less by $71.46
I also annex a statement of Quarterly Expenses of this Office which are paid out of
the Post Masters commissions

The Labors of the office have also greatly increased being compelled to remain in
the office from 6 A.M to 10 PM and three nights in the Week until 11 or 12 PM making
from 16 to 18 hours labor to be performed daily
