In reply to the statements contained in the memorial of Messrs A. W. & J. H. Foster, relative to publishing the list of uncalled letters remaining in the Post Office at “Pittsburgh; Penna, I have to say; that the Postmaster at Pittsburgh was notified of the complaint of those gentlemen in September last, and required to furnish the evidence upon which he acted, when he selected a paper to publish said list of letters. From the evidence submitted, it was deemed inexpedient to order any change until the 1st of July next; as Postmasters are required to make their selections ^on^ the 1st of July in each year, to publish said list for the ensuing year. The papers submitted by the Postmaster were returned, as he is required to keep them

on file in his office.
The enclosed copy of a letter, Marked A., was addressed to the Messrs Foster, on the 16th of November, 1847, making known the decision of the Department. The memorial is herewith returned.
