AN ACT for the relief of trustees of schools in township six north, range eight west,
in Madison county.
1Sale of lots legalized.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the sale of lots numbered nine, ten, and thirteen, containing two hundred acres
of school land, in section numbered sixteen, of township numbered six north, range
numbered eight, west of the third principal meridian, in Madison county, made by the trustees of schools of said township to John Smith, of the county of
Clark, in the State of Indiana, be, and the same is hereby, legalized.
Duty of Gov.
Sec. 2. The Governor is hereby authorized to cause a patent to issue to the said John Smith for the above
described land, in conformity with the laws now in force relative to the issuing of
patents to purchasers of school lands.

1On January 23, 1839, Representative Robert Smith introduced the bill in the House of Representatives, and the House referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. On January 24,
the Committee on the Judiciary reported the bill with an amendment, and the House
concurred in the amendment. On February 5, the House passed the bill. On February
13, the Senate referred the bill to the Committee on School Lands and Education. On February 18,
the Committee on School Lands and Education reported the bill without amendments.
On February 19, the Senate passed the bill. On February 22, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
