An ACT supplemental to an act, entitled “An act in relation to the Charleston Seminary and Jonesboro' college,” approved third of February, one thousand eight hundred and forty.
16th sec. of act repealed.
Proviso.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the sixth section of an act in relation to the Charleston seminary and Jonesboro’ college, approved the third of February, one thousand eight hundred and forty, is hereby
repealed; Provided, That the provisions of this act shall not be construed to extend to the Jonesboro’ college.2

1James T. Cunningham introduced HB 17 in the House of Representatives on December 10, 1840. The House passed the bill on December 14. The Senate tabled the bill on December 21. On January 14, 1841, the Senate took up the bill
and referred it to the Committee on Finance. The committee reported back the bill
on January 19 with an amendment, in which the Senate concurred. The next day, the
Senate passed the bill as amended. The House concurred with the Senate amendment on
February 12. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 17 and the act became law.

2On January 19, 1841, the Senate added the proviso. Section six of the act being supplemented authorized the school commissioner of Coles County to pay the president and trustees of Charleston Seminary $200 out of distributive share of State school fund for advance education in the
county.
