Section 1. Be it Enacted by the People of the state of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly.
That the boundary of the county of Scott shall be changed so as to run as follows Beginning in [the?] center of the Illinois River [o?] the dividing line between . . . Fifteen and sixteen North thence East on said line to the West line of the way attained for the Location of the Northern cross Rail Road, thence runing on the Western and Southern line of said way, leaving the whole of said Road and way in the county of Morgan until the line strikes the line between Townships Number twelve and thirteen of Range thirteen West, and thence to follow the lines [...?] as stated in the act creating said county.2

1Responding to a petition from citizens of Scott County, Milton Carpenter from the Committee on Counties introduced HB 288 in the House of Representatives on February 23, 1841. The House ordered the bill to a second reading, but took no further action.

2Section one of An Act to Create and Organize the County of Scott established the boundaries of Scott County. This act would have removed a portion of the northern part of Scott County and returned it to Morgan County to place all of the Northern Cross Railroad route from Meredosia to Jacksonville within Morgan County.
