Sec.[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois, represented in the General assembly, That in sales of real estate on executions issued upon judgments and in sales upon
decrees in chancery in favor of school commissioners and Townships Treasurers for money due school funds of counties or Townships, the school commissioners shall be authorized under the direction of the County commissioners, to purchase
such real estate for the fund to which the money is due if due to the county or to
an unincorporated township, and if due to an incorporated township, the Treasurer
thereof may under the direction of the Trustees of schools, become purchaser for the
use of the Township. But the sum bid for real estate as aforesaid shall never exceed
two thirds the value of the estate purchased; and real estate purchased under the
provisions of this act shall be held for the use of such fund or township, and the
rents and profits thereof shall be applied as interest upon the fund; and when the
title shall be completed by virtue of any such purchase; such real estate may be sold
by the school commissioner or Treasurer as the case may be, upon the terms upon which
sections numbered sixteen are sold, but no sale shall be made for less than the cost
of such real estate, and school commissioners or Treasurers as the case may be are
authorized to convey by deed to the purchaser all the right which the county or township
school fund may have in such real estate, when the terms of sale are complied with

Section 2. The county commissioners courts of the several counties in this State shall reduce the compensation of the School commissioners whenever they shall think
the Public Good may require it.2

Maintaining Common Schools.’" The House informed the Senate of the bill’s passage,
but the Senate took no action before the end of the session.
