Whereas the County Commissioners Court of Jefferson County, at its March term AD 1840. did appoint one William Redman to the office of assessor, in and for the northern division of said county. And whereas said Redman, after his said appointment, and after entering upon the duties of his said office,
and before making return thereof, did mysteriously disappear in some manner unknown
to the authorities of said County. And whereas said court, at a special term held in the month of July last, did appoint one Green P Casey to said office of assessor, who entered upon the duties of his said office; made
said assessment, and made return thereof to said Court, at its September Term in said year. Therefore,
Sec[Section] 1st Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly, that the assessment of Taxable property, in the Northern division of Jefferson County in and for the year AD 1840, by Green P Casey, be and the same is hereby declared to be as legal, and as binding to all intents
and purposes, as the same could or might have been, if he the said Casey had been appointed to said office at the March term, and had made return thereof
at the same term of said court.
Sec 2nd This act to take effect and be inforce from and after its passage. And it is hereby made the duty of the Secretary of State,
to cause an authenticated copy of the same to be made out and transmitted by mail
to the Clerk of County Commissioners Court of Jefferson county so soon as the same shall become a law.
