Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That the inhabitants and residents of t[he?] town of Petersburg in the County of Menard, are hereby made a body Corporate and politic, in law and in fact by the name of
“The President and Trustees of the to[wn] of [Petersburg]” in the county of Menard are hereby made a body corporate and politic in law and in fact by the name of the President & Trustees of the Town of Petersburg” and by such name and Style shall be for ever able and capable in law and in Equity
to sue and be sued to plead and be impleaded, to an[sw]er and be answered unto to defend and be defended in all manner of suits actions plaints,
pleas causes matters and demands of whatever kind or nature they may be in as full
and Effectual a manner as any person or persons, bodies corporate or politic can or
may do and by the name [and?] style aforesaid shall have perpetual [su?]ccession and may have and use a common seal which they may alter or revoke at pleasure
Sec: 2. That the corporate powers and duties of said town, shall be vested in and exercised by five Trustees to be chosen and appointed as
h[ere?]in after directed who shall form a board for the transaction of business.
Sec: 3. That James Hoey, John Mcneal, William G Spears, James Colby and George D Adams, Trustees of said town as at present I[n?]corporated under the general act of incorpora[tion?] are hereby appointed Trustees of said town un[der?]

this act, and shall hold their offices until th[e?] first Monday in the month of April next and until their successors are duly elected
and qualified; and on the first Monday in the Month of April next, and on the first
Monday in the month of April in each year thereafter an election shall be held for
five Trustees of said town, who shall serve for one year and untill their success[ors?] are duly elected and qualified; the members composing the board of Trustees shall
be at least twenty one years of age inhabitants of said incorporated limits, and bona fide freeholders in said town; and they shall have power to fill all vacancies in their board which may be occasioned
by death resignation or otherwise
Sec: 4. That in all elections for Trus[tees every?] white male resident within the incorporated limits of said townover the age of Twenty one years who shall have resided therein Six months or who
shall be the bona fide owner of any freehold property therein shall enjoy the right of an election.
Sec: 5. That the board of Trustees shall appoint their President and all other officers
of their board, and shall be the Judges of the qualifications election and returns
of their own members, a majority of whom shall constitute a board to transact business
[?]ber may adjourn from day to day and may compel the attendance of absent members in
such manner and under such penalties as the board may provide; they may determine
the rules of proceeding, punish their [members for ?] [...?]

. . .equity, any informality in said proceedings or omission in the records of said Corporation to the the contrary, notwithstanding; and that this act shall be considered sufficient evidence
in any court of law or equity in th[is state to es?]tablish the fact of the legal incorporation of said town at the period aforesaid.
Sec: 22. That this act shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage.
