An ACT to authorize the appointment of Assessors in certain cases.

Courts of new counties may appoint assessors.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners' court of each new county which may be created at the present session of the General Assembly, shall at their first meeting as a court, appoint one or more assessors, who shall qualify in the same manner and perform the same duties as is now required by law.
Vacancies may be filled.
Assessors to make return.
Sec. 2. In all cases of vacancy in the office of assessor, or failure on the part of any assessor to perform the duties required of him by law, the county commissioners shall at their next regular or special term thereafter proceed to fill any or all such vacancies, and assessors appointed under the provisions of this section shall make returns to the commissioners' court within three months from the date of their appointment.

1On February 13, 1841, James B. Moore introduced SB 196 in the Senate. On February 24, the Senate passed the bill without amendment. On February 27, the House too passed the bill without further amendment. That same day, the Council of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.
