Proviso
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That Allen Boomer, Marcus White, C. H. Avery and A. E. Ames, their successors and assigns, be, and they are hereby constituted a body corporate and politic, by the name of the “Union Manufacturing Company,” and that all the rights and privileges that are conferred on the Union Steam Mill Company by an act entitled “An act to establish a company for manufacturing,” approved, second of March, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-nine, are hereby conferred on the said nion manufacturing company: Provided, That the private property of every one of the stockholders shall be liable for all the debts incurred by said corporation.

1John Logan introduced HB 66 to the House of Representatives on December 29, 1840, and the House referred it to the Committee on Banks and other Corporations. The committee reported back the bill on January 4, 1841, with an amendment, in which the House concurred. The next day, the House passed the bill as amended. The Senate passed the bill on January 29. The Council of Revision approved the bill on February 3 and the act became law.
