A Bill for an act creating the county of Grundy From the county Lasalle.
Sec 1st Be it Enacted by the people of the State of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly.
That all that Tract of county Lying and being in the county of Lasalle in Township Thirty one Thirty two Thirty Three & Thirty four North of Ranges Six Seven & Eight East of the Third principal meredian Shall constitute and form anew county to be called Grundy.
Sec 2 an Election Shall be held at the House of S. Piney on the fourth Monday of May next for the purpose of Electing one Sherriff one Recorder one county Survayor one probate [Justice?] one county treasure and three county commissioners, & one county commissioners [Clk?] Clerk who shall hold there officers until the[re?] next General Election or until there successors in office Shall be Elected and Qualified said Election Shall be conducted as according to the Law Regulating Elections in this State
Perry A Claypool Robert Walker & John Beard Sen Shall be the Judges of said Election and Shall make there Returns within five days after such Election to the county Commissioners clerk of Lasalle county and the clerk of said county shall give certificates of Election as in other cases for county officers and the

the said county of Grundy Shall be organised so soon as the Said officers Shall be Elected and Qualified
Sec 3d Ward B Bernett Rulief Duryea and Wm E Armstrong are here by appointed commissioners to Review select & Locate the seat of Justice of Grundy County and the same shall be Located on the Line of the Illinois & Michigan Canal and upon Canal Lands and it Shall be the duty of said commissioners to set apart a Large & Respecteble public Square and notify the canal commissioners thereof and it shall be the duty of said ^canal^ commissioners to inform the Governor of such Location when so informed the Governor shall issue a duplicate of convayence to the county commissioners and there Successors in office ^of^ fifteen acres of Land which Shall be a donation From The State of Illinois to the county of Grundy to aid in the construction of public buildings—and it shall be the duty of the canal Commissioners to lay out as much ground adjoining the ^above^ named public square as selected alternately shall amount to fifteen acres in Lots
and said county seat when Located and Established Shall be the permanent seat of Justice of Grundy county and Shall be Located within Six months from the pasage of this act act For which services the commissioners shall be paid out of the treasury of said county three [dollars Per?] day to be paid out of

the first monies Received in said treasure
Section 4th The county commissioners Shall meete on The second Monday of June next and appoint one assessor and one Collector and such assessor and collector shall proceede to Levy and collectad Tax. From the Taxible inhabitants of said county according to the Law of this State and said assessment shal[l?] be as Legal as if the county of Grundy had been organised previous to the first day Monday of March ^1841.^
Section 5th The county commissioners shall prepare a place for Holding courts in sa Said county until there Shall be public buildings Erected the county of Grundy shall be attac[hed?] to the ninth Judicial circuit the diferent times of Holding court Shall be appointed by the [Judge?] in the above named Circuit So as to hold two terms in Each year all Suits comenced in Lasalle circuit court shall be be determined there although the parties may Reside in Grundy county until after the pasage of this act and the Election of officers take place as provided for in this act
Section 6th it Shall be the duty of the School Commissioners of Lasalle county to pay over & cause to be paid over to the School commissioner of Grundy ^county^ as soon as there may be one appointed all monies papers vouchers &c that he or they may have belonging to the said county of Grundy.
