An ACT to amend an act creating the Exeter Manufacturing Company.

Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Exeter Manufacturing Company shall have power to erect machinery and manufacture cotton yarn and cotton goods, hemp and cotton bagging, rope and bricks, and the stockholders of said company shall have the power and privilege of any natural person in the exercise of their business powers.2

1Joseph W. Ormsbee introduced HB 127 in the House of Representatives on February 15, 1841. The House passed the bill on February 19. The Senate concurred on February 25. On February 26, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.

2Section two of the incorporation act had delineated the business activities of the company. Section one had given the corporation, in the person of the incorporators, their heirs and assigns, the right to conduct business as a natural person, but made no mention of the stockholders.
