1President Andrew Jackson appointed Abraham Lincoln as Postmaster of New Salem on May 7, 1833. On May 27, Nelson Alley and Alexander Trent signed the $500 bond Lincoln was required to post. Lincoln served as Postmaster until
the Post Office at New Salem was discontinued on May 30, 1836.
