Convention to amend the Constitution.
Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, That it be recommended to the electors of this State, at the next general election for members of the General Assembly, to vote for or against a convention to amend the Constitution of this State.

1On December 16, 1840, John J. Hardin introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives. The House adopted the resolution the same day, by a vote of 66 yeas to 22 nays, Abraham Lincoln voting yea. On January 11, 1841, the Senate adopted the resolution by a vote of 28 yeas to 9 nays.
