April 20, 1840. In pursuance of an ordinance of the corporation, the poll-books of the election
held this day in the city of Springfield, were opened and examined by the President and Clerk of the Board, in presence of the whole Board of Trustees, when it was found that the following elections had been made:
For Mayor—Benjamin S. Clement;
For Aldermen—1st Ward—James. R. Gray;
2d Ward—Joseph Kleine;
3d Ward—Washington Iles;
4th Ward—William Prentiss.
