Resolved, That the committee on Public Accounts and Expenditures, be instructed to enquire
into the expediency of passing a law for compensating witnesses in behalf of the

People in criminal cases, where they are required to attend Court out of the county
in which they reside.
1On January 2, 1834, Peter Butler introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives. On January 7, the House received a response from the Committee on Public Accounts and Expenditures, of which Abraham Lincoln was a member.
