Resolved, That so much of the Governor’s message as relates to internal improvements be referred
to the committee on internal improvements.
Resolved, That so much as relates to raising means to pay interest on loans already made be
referred to the Committee on Finance.
Resolved, That so much as relates to the elective franchise be referred to the Committee on
Elections.
Resolved, That so much as relates to Calhoun’s land bill be referred to the Committee on Finance.
1Richard G. Murphy introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on November 27, 1840, and the House adopted it. The House referred the referenced
sections of Governor Thomas Carlin’s message to the respective standing committees, including two sections to the Committee
on Finance, on which sat Abraham Lincoln.
