Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the Auditor of Public Accounts, Secretary2 and Treasurer of State, be authorized and required to deliver over, upon application of the Illinois and Michigan Canal Commissioners, all the surveys, profiles, maps, books, and other papers in their offices, which may be considered necessary by said Commissioners, of the said Canal, and that said Commissioners receipt therefor.3
1On January 16, 1836, William H. Davidson introduced the resolution in the Senate. The Senate amended the resolution and adopted it the same day. Also on January 16, the House of Representatives adopted a similar resolution.

On January 9, 1836, the General Assembly passed an act for the construction of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Section 7 of the act authorized the Governor to appoint a new three-person Board of Commissioners. Governor Joseph Duncan appointed William F. Thornton, Gurdon S. Hubbard, and William B. Archer, and the Senate confirmed their appointments on January 13.
