Resolved by the House of Representatives, (the Senate concurring herein) That the Auditor of Public Accounts is hereby authorized and required
to audit and settle the accounts of the late Board of Canal Commissioners, and that
he report the proceedings had thereon to the next General Assembly of the State.
1On July 11, 1837, the House of Representatives referred the portions of Governor Joseph Duncan’s annual message relating to the Illinois and Michigan Canal to the Committee on Roads and Canals. On July 19, Newton Cloud from the Committee on Roads and Canals reported back that the committee found unnecessary
expenses as part of their investigation, and he introduced the resolution in the House.
The House adopted the resolution the same day. On July 20, the Senate refused to concur in the resolution.
