Resolved, That the committee on Finance be instructed to enquire into the expediency of purchasing
a residence at the Seat of Government, for the use of the Governor, and that they report by bill or otherwise.
1William F. Elkin introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on December 21, 1839. The House adopted it and referred it to the Committee on Finance.
On January 24, 1840, Abraham Lincoln of the Committee on Finance introduced HB 299 in response to the petition’s request.
