This Indenture made this second day of September in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and thirty one between William Batterton of the County of Sangamon and State of Illinois of the one part and Denton Offett of the County of Sangamon and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Batterton for and in consideration of the sum of ten dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged before the signing sealing and delivering of these presents on this part have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give grant bargain and sell all his right title and estate in and to a certain tract or parcel of land being lot No 14 in the town of New Salem according to the town plat and according to the return of the surveyor General a part of the S[South] West fractional quarter of section No 25 Township 18 North of range 7 West in the district of land offered for sale at Springfield Illinois and the said William Batterton doth further covenant and agree on the part of himself his heirs and administrators to forever warrant and defend the right of said lot of land unto the said Denton Offett his heirs or administrators against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whomsoever may claim the same
