This Indenture made this second day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty
one
betwen
William Batterton of the County of Sangamon and State of Illinois of the one part and Denton Offett of the County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Batterton for and in consideration of the sum of ten dollars to him in hand paid the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged before the signing sealing and delivering of these
presents on his part have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do
give grant bargain and sell all his right title and ^estate^
interest in and to a certain tract or parcele of land Being Lot No 14 in the Town of New Salem according to the Town Plat and according to the return of the Surveyers General a part of the S[South] West fractional quarter of section No 25 Township 18 North of Range 7 West in the
district of land offered for sale at Springfield Illinois and the said William Batterton doth further covenant and agree on the part of himself his heirs and administrators
to forever warint and defend the right of said Lot

or persons whomsoever may claim the same
