Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring herein, That our Senators in Congress be and they are hereby instructed, and our Representatives requested, to urge upon
Congress the propriety of passing a law graduating the price of the public lands, and limiting
the sales thereof to actual settlers; and of relinquishing to the States all lands
that remain unsold after having been offered for sale a certain length of time.
Resolved, That the Governor be requested to transmit a copy of the above resolutions to each
of our Senators and Representatives in Congress.
1On December 26, 1838, Harmon Alexander introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives. The House approved the resolution the same day. On December 28, the Senate tabled the resolution.
