Chenery House

The Chenery House was a hotel located at the corner of Washington and Fourth streets in Springfield, Illinois. It was established in 1855 by the former proprietor of the American House, William D. Chenery, who co-owned it with his son, John W. Chenery. The Chenery House could accommodate about 200 guests. Abraham Lincoln briefly lived at the hotel before leaving for Washington, DC, in February 1861.
