Galena Courier

City: Galena

County: Jo Daviess

State: Illinois

The Galena Courier was a newspaper in Galena, Illinois. In November 1855, L. F. Leal, H. G. Crouch, and David W. Scott commenced publication of the Courier as a weekly. In January 1856, the proprietors supplemented the weekly with a daily. The paper was Democratic in its politics; it replaced the Galena Jeffersonian, which ceased publication in 1855. Scott retired from the partnership soon after it began, and Crouch retired in 1860, leaving Leal as the sole proprietor. In May 1861, Leal sold the paper to E. R. Paul, publisher of the Dunleith Advertiser, who discontinued the daily. Paul continued to publish the weekly until 1862, when he sold the paper and it ceased to exist.
