Moore & Hascall (Moore & Haskell)

County: Kalamazoo

State: Michigan

Hiram Moore and John Hascall of the small village of Climax in Kalamazoo County, Michigan together conceptualized a machine that would cut, thrash, winnow, and sack grain. They began constructing and adapting a prototype of their machine in 1834, and won a patent for it in June 1836. They built two reapers in Rochester, New York in 1836, and continued improving the machine's design. By 1848, they had perfected their design work, but cheaper and less complex reapers came onto the market soon after and pushed the Moore and Hascall Harvester out of the market. Moore later moved to Wisconsin.
