New York Central Railroad Company

The New York Central Railroad Company was created in 1853 upon the consolidation of ten different railroad companies in New York. The consolidated line ran between Albany and Buffalo, across the middle of the state. Upon its creation, the railroad held and operated 563 miles of track, 307 passenger cars, and 1,702 freight cars. Erastus Corning served as the company's president from its creation in 1853 until nearly a decade after the Civil War.
