Northern New York Railroad Company
City: Malone
County: Franklin
State: New York
The Northern New York Railroad Company was created in May 1845. In 1846, the company elected a board of directors with George Parish as its president. The original route of 117 miles extended from Ogdensburg in the east, through Malone, to Rouses Point in far northern New York. In July 1850, the company completed construction of a floating draw bridge from Rouses Point across Lake Champlain. The company enjoyed financial success in its first few years of operation and boasted a safety record of no passengers injured or killed within the first eleven years of operation. The company ceased to exist in 1864, when the railroad was reorganized as the Ogdensburg and Lake Champlain Railroad Company.
