In 1836, James E. Boisseau joined the existing mercantile firm of Stout & Ingoldsby and the name was changed to Stout, Ingoldsby & Company. The firm operated their New York City hardware store under that name until 1840, when Stout left the partnership, and it was renamed Ingoldsby & Boisseau.
