Upon its creation out of Edwards County in December 1824, Wabash County joined Edwards County in the Second Judicial Circuit. In 1827, the Illinois General Assembly moved Wabash, along with Edwards, to the Fourth Judicial Circuit. Wabash County remained in the Fourth Judicial Circuit until 1851, when the General Assembly created the Twelfth Judicial Circuit and moved Wabash to this new circuit.
