Avery, John H.
John H. Avery was a businessman who established postal routes for the U.S. Post Office Department. In July 1829, he entered into a partnership with James Reeside and others to deliver the mail between Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana. From 1831 to 1834, he contracted to carry the mail between Petersburg, Virginia and Warrenton, North Carolina. Avery was also a partner in Daniel Searle & Co., and A. Morgan & Co., which provided mail service between New York City and Oswego, New York.
