Belcher, Hiram

Belcher studied law and earned admittance to the bar in 1812, and started a practice in Farmington. He won election as town clerk of Farmington, serving from 1814-1819. He won election to the Maine House of Representatives in 1822, 1829, and 1832. Belcher won election to the State Senate in 1838 and 1839. He won election, as a Whig, to the U.S. House of Representatives from 1847-1849, serving alongside Abraham Lincoln. He returned to Farmington and practiced law until his death in 1857.
