Brodhead, Richard

Richard Brodhead was a Pennsylvania state legislator, U.S. representative, and U.S. senator. He moved to Easton, Pennsylvania, in 1830. He studied law, earned admittance to the Pennsylvania bar, and started practicing in Easton, in 1836. Brodhead won election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, serving from 1837 to 1839. He earned appointment as treasurer of Northampton County in 1841. Brodhead won election, as a Democrat, to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1843 to 1849. He won election to the U.S. Senate, serving from 1851 to 1857. He was the father of U.S. Representative Joseph Davis Brodhead.
