In June 1840, Caffee married Nancy Reber in Fairfield, Ohio, with whom he had at least three children. Caffee served as a clerk in the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1849. In 1850, he was living in Washington, DC's Second Ward and was working as an attorney. Upon his death, Caffee left an estate of $2,000.
