Charles S. Corneau was a pharmacist in Springfield, Illinois. Corneau moved to Springfield as a youth, and apprenticed as a druggist in the apothecary store of Wallace & Diller. In August 1849, he entered into partnership with Roland W. Diller to open a drug store on the State Capitol square. In October 1854, Corneau married Elizabeth C. Ridgway, with whom he had three children.
